Da Xue Shan 大雪山 is a mountain located in Lincang Region of Southwest Yunnan. The peak (3430 m) of the mountain is covered by snow all year round. Hence its name the Big Snow Mountain. Wild tea (Ye Sheng Cha 野生茶, often called as Shan Cha 山茶 by Yunnan farmers, ) grows at the altitude around 2000-2300 m in the mountain. Although growing in the very high altitude, it germinates earlier than other common teas. In the end of March, the tea is well ready for harvesting. The Daxueshan wild tea is famous for its wild orchid flavor and mild mellow taste. Local farmers are of Li Su race which is a rare minority group in Yunnan. They typically live in high mountains and most of them would prefer to produce less tea and live a simple life as they always did. More

Wild tea refers to the tea that naturally grows in the mountains. It belongs to wild nature with no human intervention. The Ye Sheng Cha 野生茶 has two typical signs. The first one is that it has nearly no hair on buds, the second one is that even the long grow shoot keeps its leaf sheath.

The Daxueshan wild tea material is perfect not only for a production of Sheng Pu-erh but it is very much valued when processed as red (black) tea. Very often the people who buy the wild black tea and keep it for years to age are Chinese medicine doctors as they are very well aware of its enourmous added value for human body.

You can find two types of red Daxueshan teas in our e-shop. The first type is sun-dried (Shai Hong) and the second type is oven-baked (Kao Hong) which is more traditional method of processing. There are subtle differences in taste and aroma between these two but both carry strong Daxueshan cha qi  and are pertfectly suited for aging.
