This loose form of Jiao Gu Lan herbal tea offers a superb price to quality ratio. The relatively large leaves produce a full and distinctive sweet aroma and taste, the infusion is of a deep yellow colour. This Chinese five-leaf ginseng grows in the South-Western part of the Yunnan province, which is frequently and rightly named the garden of the world.

Gynostemma Phentaphyllum, popularly known as the "herb of longevity", is traditionally cultivated in the mountainous regions of southern China, but is available in a range of other locations in Asia. The aforementioned traditional region for cultivating this herb is famed for its low proportion of occurrences of cardiovascular diseases and cancers amongst the local population. Thanks to its similarity to Chinese ginseng, Jiao Gu Lan is frequently known as "southern ginseng", although in many respects it outclasses the celebrated ginseng thanks to its strikingly high quantity of medicinal saponins (plant components, the solutions of which in water produce a thick froth upon shaking). Jiao Gu Lan contains a large quantity of vitamins, amino acids and minerals, and for centuries has been included in herbariums of classical Chinese medicine. It has traditionally been used for the treatment of jaundice and chronic bronchitis, as well as for the elimination of fever and detoxification of the organism. The herb has captivated the attention of a range of scientists, who attribute a whole range of other medicinal properties to the herb. These include support for the immune system, slowing the aging process, regulation of blood cholesterol, treatment of coughs, treatment of illnesses caused by exposure to radiation, dissolution of catarrh and others.

Scientific studies in China show that Gynostemma Phentaphyllum is able to reduce cholesterol by strengthening the ability of the liver to supply sugar and carbohydrates to the muscles for conversion into energy instead of conversion of sugar into triacylglycerols, which the body stores in the form of fat. Japanese studies show that the herb is capable of calming the human organism in states of excessive excitement and stimulating in times of depression. The drink prepared from the "herb of longevity" is naturally specifically bitter, with sweet undertones, and can be mixed with other teas (Camellia Sinensis). The infusion has a greenstone colour and the herb immediately offers several infusions.
