Earl Grey "Blue blossom" gained its name due to the presence of the blue cornflower blossoms between the tea leaves. This tea can frequently be found also under the name “Lady Grey”. The cornflower blossoms have a specific role, namely to remove the citrus aroma and flavour of the tea, which many find too overpowering, whilst instead adding a floral aroma and taste, thus providing the tea with a slight overall sweetness.
Our Earl Grey is based on a blend of black Ceylon and Chinese tea flavoured with bergamot oil and very high quality vanilla, which distinctively softens the classic bergamot aroma and taste. The sweet, creamily harmonised vanilla sensitively complements the citrus aroma and taste of the tea. The tea can also be prepared with milk and honey.
We always prepare this seasonal tea blend at the end of summer, and it is sought out by customers right until the end of winter. Because it comes onto the market during the Christmas season, it is often called “Christmas tea” by customers. Since time immemorial the aroma of oranges and cinnamon has been associated with the coming of Christmas.
