Genmaicha Matcha-iri is a unique blend of Sencha tea, toasted rice and Matchat tea. Powdered Matcha lightly covers the Sencha tea leaves and the rice, thus defining the refreshing and sweet taste of the blend. Thanks to the rice, this traditional blend has a full and stimulating taste, which nevertheless does not overwhelm the sweet taste of the green tea, but merely rounds it off.
We always prepare this seasonal tea blend at the end of summer, and it is sought out by customers right until the end of winter. Because it comes onto the market during the Christmas season, it is often called “Christmas tea” by customers. Since time immemorial the aroma of oranges and cinnamon has been associated with the coming of Christmas.
The translation of the name Genmaicha as “brown rice tea” is indicative of the nature of the tea. This speciality, drunk by the Japanese for centuries, is a blend of higher class organic Sencha tea (in the case of our tea Ichibancha from the first harvest of the year) and roasting brown coloured grains of organic rice. The tea offers a yellowish-brown, sweet-tasting aromatic infusion, with nut elements. Green tea is not dominant, nevertheless it contributes the desirable sharply bitter taste of Sencha tea to the overall impression.
